How to open Local Users and Groups console on Windows 10/11

Local Users and Groups management console (lusrmgr.msc) is a utility tool for managing local users and groups in Windows. Using this console, you can create new users and groups, and add/remove members in local security groups. You can open this tool in the following three ways.

  1. Using the Computer Management Console
  2. Use this command “lusrmgr.msc” in the Run window
  3. Using the Windows Search box 

Using Computer Management Console

  • Type “Computer Management” in Windows search and open the console.
  • On the left side navigation panel, under System Tools, expand Local Users and Groups.
  • You can now see two folders: Users and Groups. Select Users or Groups and manage the existing objects.
  • To create a new user/group, right-click on Users/Groups -> New user/group.

Using Run window

  • Open the Run window (Hit the Windows Key + R buttons combination).
  • Type in lusrmgr.msc and click OK to open the Local Users and Groups window.

When you run this command on Windows Home Edition, you will get the following message. 

This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10/11. To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in the Control Panel.

Using the Windows Search box

  • Hit the Windows Key + S button combination to launch the Windows Search Box.
  • Search for lusrmgr.msc in the Windows search box and click Enter to open the Local Users and Group window.

  1. This snap in may not be used with this edition of Windows 10. (>>I am using Windows 11<<)
    To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User
    Accounts tool in the Control Panel.
