Templates in Teams help users to create new team from different custom templates. IT administrators can create new custom templates with pre-defined team structure, channels, tabs, and apps. A basic set of built-in templates included with Team templates, such as project management, adoption of Office 365, employee onboarding, helpdesk integration, and more. The built-in templates currently cannot be edited, deleted, or hidden.

Teams admins can easily create and manage custom templates from the Teams admin center. Follow the below steps to create a new custom template.
- Go to Microsoft Teams admin center.
- In the left navigation pane, navigate Teams -> Team templates.
- Click Add (+ plus) to create a new template. This will provide three options to create a template: Create a brand new template; Use an existing team as a template; Use an existing template as the starting point and customize and create a new template.
- If you already have a Team with the required structure, then we would recommend you to choose the option “Use an existing team as a template” and click Next.
- Select your existing team and click Next. The template will exactly look like the existing team and you can customize it from there.
- Now provide the name and description for this new template and click Next.
- Finally, customize channels and apps click Submit to create the template.
Create new Team from existing Template
Creating a team from a template is now simple process for users. Please follow the below steps to create a team using an existing team template from Microsoft Teams client.
- Open Microsoft Teams client (desktop or web client)
- In the left menu, click Teams.
- On the bottom of the Teams list, click Join or create a team.
- Click on Create Team option.
- In Create Team window, under Select from a template, you can see the templates list, select the required team to proceed.
- Now the available channels and apps will be listed, you can click Start to create the new team.
- In the next step, provide privacy and team name, finally click Create button to start the team creation.
- The template-based team creation process takes a time little longer than normal team creation. It is based on the number of channels and apps available in template architecture.
- Once the team creation process completed, go to the team -> navigate to all channels -> visit each tab, and set up the tab if it not already configured.
